What To See And Do In Costa Rica

Whenever planning a trip abroad it is essential that you understand at least something about where you’re going. In Costa Rica, people tend to refer to themselves as Ticos and for the most part they are extremely friendly and hospitable. If you’re planning a relatively short holiday, then definitely make an itinerary. The following are places in Costa Rica you will surely not want to miss.

San Jose

There are numerous museums and galleries within this city. Most of downtown San Jose is congested and rather noisy as is typical of any capital city, plus a major airport is mere minutes away. Downtown is something not to be missed, but know that pedestrians here don’t own the road, so keep your wits about you!

The Northwest

Situated in the Northwest are Monteverde and Arenal. A volcano, Arenal is still very active. You might get lucky and actually see it spew hot lava. In fact it is the only active volcano in which one can observe an eruption without getting physically injured.

To get to Monteverde there is a road that runs from the small town of Santa Elena to the Monteverde Cloud Preserve, with various hotels, restaurants and nightclubs along the way. It is, however, saturated with tourists. Settled by the Quakers, it has today a vibrant artistic community. Despite this region being relatively busy you can still have a reasonably relaxing holiday.

Nicoya Peninsula

The beaches here are one of the regions best kept secrets. They remain relatively quiet and if you like golfing the golf course Playa Conchal is not to be missed. Also if you love to snorkel, swim, dive and surf, then the Peninsula has much to offer. The drive from Carrillo to Mal Pals by 4-wheel is stunning.

Quepos $ Central Pacific

The beaches here are simply beautiful and world renowned. Though a favorite of surfers, the beaches are not too crowded and the perfect place to lounge about and sun yourself. There are plenty of places to stay along their Pacific Coast Highway, not to mention the golfing, horse back riding and fishing that one can do.

Osa Peninsula $ Golfo Duce

This region is pretty remote, however there are a number of simply luxurious hotels to stay at. Whale watching is a must see at Drake Bay, not to mention a trip through Corcovado National Park.

South Caribbean

You’ll love the magnificent beaches, not to mention the Caribbean culture and all that it has to offer. Their weather is significantly more humid than the rest of Costa Rica, and there are any number of water sports you can partake in, as these types of activities are extremely popular here.
